Collaboration
We work with health and social service centres (CISSS/CIUSSS) around the province to find adoptive parents for children with special needs.
Preparing for Adoption
We provide prospective adoptive families with guidance and support on the laws and regulations in force in Quebec.
Family Support
We organize activities, individual meetings, telephone support, support groups and more.
Post-Adoption Follow-Up
We support member families after the adoption process is completed.
Education
We offer a range of tools to support our community.
Association Emmanuel’s professionals coordinate with social services to find suitable homes for children awaiting adoption. We offer attentive support to families before and after the adoption process, and organize discussions and training sessions for parents.
The association is steered by its Board of Directors, whose members act as references in their respective regions. Perinatal nurses and social workers introduce our representatives to biological parents of children diagnosed with disabilities or serious illnesses.
These parents share their stories, including the challenges and rewards they experience, through our newsletter, our Annual General Meeting and various social and recreational events.
Testimonials from Emmanuel parents help us inform and recruit new adoptive families. However, there’s no school that teaches how to become a parent of a child with a disability. That’s why we try to pair each prospective adoptive family with an experienced one. The relationships they forge and information they share is mutually beneficial.
After a family adopts a child, we remain available to support the new parents, check in to see how the child is doing and provide practical assistance with dealing with social services and other local resources. In a way, Association Emmanuel is like one big family made up of different families. We encourage all members to stay in touch and help build our family spirit.
