Hello, my name is Alice*. I just turned one year old.
I’ve been living in the hospital since I was born. I have a rare genetic disorder that mainly affects my muscles. The good news is that it’s not degenerative! With lots of love, stimulation, and good care, I can continue to make great progress.
My future family will receive all necessary training to confidently care for me and use my specialized equipment. I have a tracheostomy, which helps me breathe, and I am fed through a feeding tube. I will also need support from several healthcare professionals (occupational therapists, nurses, physical therapists, medical specialists, etc.) to ensure my well-being and help me reach my full potential.
Even though I have significant medical needs, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying life! With a little planning, I can go out, visit the park, explore the world, and share wonderful moments with my family.
Just like every child, what I need most is love, tenderness, and someone to be there for me. I recognize the people who care for me every day, and I reward them with beautiful smiles. I love feeling safe and surrounded by people who care about me.
It’s hard to predict my future, but the doctors are optimistic about my progress. And most importantly, they believe the time has finally come for me to leave the hospital and discover what it’s like to be part of a real family. My greatest wish? To find loving arms, a home filled with tenderness, and a place where I can finally grow up like a child.
