Hello! My name is Maverick*. I’m a 5-year-old boy of mixed heritage. People say I’m fun to be around and that I’m usually in a great mood. I really enjoy being around others, and I’m easy to get along with. I also enjoy greeting adults and showing them affection.
I have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and am nonverbal. I do not have any meltdowns, but I need adults to provide me with one-on-one support, especially because I really enjoy exploring my surroundings. Therefore, I need close and constant supervision to keep me safe.
I learn a lot by watching others. Sometimes I need to have certain instructions repeated, but once I understand what’s expected of me, I respond appropriately and respect the boundaries set for me. For example, I can say “again” when I want something to continue.
I really love having fun! I love taking my baby for walks in the stroller, singing, and dancing.
I have started kindergarten, and everything is going really well!
With the support of my caregivers, I’m also working on becoming more and more independent. I’m making great progress! Now I can do a lot of things on my own, like putting on my shoes and getting dressed.
I’m in touch with my biological family, and that’s important to me.
I still have so many wonderful things to learn and discover… and I’d love to do that with a family who will see and appreciate all that I am capable of accomplishing.
Maverick* deserves to find his place. At the Association Emmanuel, our goal is to find him a family for life.
