Mélodie* is a creative young teenager.
Discover her story
My name is Mélodie*, I’m 12 years old, almost 13. I may seem grown up, but I’m still a little girl in many ways. I need people to be close to me, to offer me a sense of security where I can see myself in the long term, where I’ll feel cared for and sheltered in a stable environment. I’m shy by nature, but when I feel comfortable, I can express myself easily.
I need to matter to someone, to be heard and listened to, just like any other teenager my age. However, I need a greater measure of kindness and compassion because, as I’ve said, I’m grown up… yet still a little girl. My life experiences have shaped me with bonds of attachment that lead me to doubt myself, my place, and my worth. This can make me fear loneliness, abandonment, or being alone.
The losses and separations I’ve experienced have left their mark on my heart, but I feel that it is ready to open up again, to sincerely welcome those who can see beyond my age and the struggles that have marked my journey.
I have chosen to distance myself from my biological family so that I can focus on myself and heal at my own pace. If I were ever to reconnect with any of them, it would only be under the supervision of my social worker, in a safe environment for me.
I am a young, artistic girl who particularly loves drawing, an area where I have a real talent. Art calms me, keeps me busy, and brings me joy; a simple piece of paper can be transformed under my fingers. All kinds of creative materials inspire me, even makeup.
I want to explore the world and travel. Someday, I’d like to help people or animals—I feel most comfortable around them. I’m actually a big cat lover.
I do well in school, especially in math. Books are a source of comfort to me, and a trip to a bookstore or the library is always exciting. The school environment makes me feel secure and meets my needs. I don’t hesitate to seek professional help, and I’d like to have someone there to provide that support so I feel less alone.
I know that friendships can be challenging for me, because making friends, and keeping them can sometimes be stressful. Relationships with other kids my age are an area where I still need support. Feeling rejected can make me doubt myself or lead me to make choices that aren’t always in my best interest.
Today, I’m looking for a family for life, caring people who can be there for me every day. I do well when I feel safe and know I belong. Because of my past, I’m more comfortable around women, but living with a couple is no problem at all.
I need to form meaningful bonds and be able to trust adults so that I can grow up with confidence. Over time, I hope to come to see them as my new family, one that will protect me and love me for a lifetime.
Could you be the family I’ve been waiting for?
